ISAF to CIA to NSFW to HKS

By Simon R. Bone, Editor-in-Chief

Retired four-star Army general and former CIA director David Petraeus is joining the staff at Harvard’s John F Kennedy School of Government.

Petraeus is known for implementing the successful “surge” and counterinsurgency strategies for US forces in Iraq. He was also commander of US and international forces in Afghanistan before becoming CIA director.

He resigned as director of the agency last year after he admitted to an extramarital affair with a former HKS student he first met while at a speaking engagement at this school in 2006..

He faced protests from both students and teaching staff when he took up a position as a visiting professor at the City University of New York in September with demonstrators accusing him of being a “war criminal”.

Petraeus has been appointed as a non-resident senior fellow at the Belfer  Center and will jointly lead a new project focusing on the technological, scientific and economic dynamics for the United States.
