Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki spoke with JMEPP’s Anna Boots about human rights, Tunisia’s young democracy, and American support for dictatorships in the Middle East.
“The main challenge is to promote social and economic rights [in Tunisia],” said Marzouki. “This is the main objective. Because if we do not promote those rights, I am afraid that democracy will not prevail.”
The interview is part of the Middle East Question-and-Answer Series, presented by the Middle East Initiative and the Harvard Journal of Middle Eastern Politics and Policy.
