Harvard Public Affairs and Communications, together with Harvard Kennedy School’s Student Public Service Collaborative, will once again participate in Community Servings’ 22nd annual Pie in the Sky fundraiser.
Community Servings is a local non-profit that delivers free meals and nutritional programs to those who are critically ill and/or homebound throughout the Commonwealth. They prepare and deliver nearly 10,000 lunches and dinners each week to the homes of almost 875 individuals and families.
For the past 21 years, they’ve hosted what has quickly become known as the “World’s Greatest Bake Sale!” Restaurants, bakeries, caterers and hotels throughout Boston donate thousands of pies that more than 600 volunteers then sell to family, friends, colleagues and even strangers.
The pies – apple, pecan, pumpkin and sweet potato – are officially on sale now. They are $28 a piece, and proceeds from each sale provide an entire week’s worth of nutritious, home-delivered meals to folks who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves or their families. Community Servings even provides medically tailored meals for individuals with certain medical conditions.
“This two decade partnership with Community Servings and their annual Pie in the Sky bake sale allows the Harvard community to support our neighbors who are struggling to satisfy basic nutritional needs,” said Kevin Casey, Associate Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at Harvard. “I know that during this holiday season the Harvard community will respond as it has in the past to this inspiring cause.”
“HKS SPSC is very excited to be working with Community Servings for Pie in the Sky. Together with the rest of the HKS community, we look forward to playing our part in providing meals and holiday cheer to those who are going through some difficult times,” said Jiayin Xie, HKS SPSC Director of Public Relations.
Pies can be picked up at pre-selected locations the day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, November 26th). Locations are located across the state. The Harvard Information Center, located in the Smith Campus Center at 1350 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge is one of the pick-up locations.
To purchase a pie, or simply donate, please visit www.pieinthesky.org and use the Seller ID code 4770. The Information Center pick-up site code is 31.
For those who won’t be around for pick-up, or who don’t like pie, Community Servings will gladly accept donations which will be used directly for feeding families in need.
Online sales end Saturday, November 22nd.
