M3: Meat Meat Meat!

By Tommy Tobin

Craving some meat? Intrigued by chicken & waffles or adding peach to cornbread? M3 in Davis Square is your place. With chalk-written specials all over the walls and its Nashville-inspired décor, M3 is got the ambiance to match Davis Square’s hip direction. Famous for their weekend brunch, M3 is also good for weekday dinner.

M3 is trendy and their music suits their hip, off-beat atmosphere. The open kitchen isn’t loud, and it brings the diner into the experience. Some seats at the bar even look into the kitchen, enabling them to engage more with the dinner service.

The star of the show at M3 is the meat. Whether chicken, steak, seafood, or pork, you’ll find some options to suit. One special, the Country Surf & Turf, was a rack of ribs, fried shrimp, a large hangar steak, and French fries for $28. This was more than enough food for two people. Portions are generous.

The supporting cast at M3 is also on point. The pan-fried corn was delectable, with a slightly sweet yet salty flavour and a satisfying crunch. The Mac & Cheese oozed with warm memories. The fries are alright but nothing special,  I may try another side next time.

Being a Southerner, I’ve not had good luck finding adequate cornbread up in these parts. M3’s peach cornbread was unlike any I’ve had before. Warm and sweet, it was quite filling. Be careful about this dish – you may eat the whole order before your entrée. This may be more a concern as the cornbread is served with a mound of sweet butter.

If you’re looking for a hip take on comfort food, M3 is your spot. That trendiness comes at a price though – entrees are upwards of $15 per plate in many cases. The standards are a better value at $10-15, especially as the portions of some dishes may give you enough food for two meals rather than one.
