Movember Grows On You

By Nick Wilson

As I traversed the Cambridge streets despite the chilly winds, I hung my head as I cursed the Daylight Savings Time gods for soon making it dark at 4 pm.

But I was able to hold my head high when I remembered that I’d soon have a glorious mustache to protect my upper lip from Boston’s cold nights.

The month of “Movember” has become a national tradition where men commit to letting their mustaches grow while raising money for charity. Campaigns often raise funds for men’s health issues, but our HKS group decided to support a more local cause that disproportionately affects men – homelessness.

Last year, the brave men and women of HKS raised over $20,000 for two local homeless charities. $10,000 went to the student-run Harvard Sq Homeless shelter and $10,000 went to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans. HKStache is hoping to surpass this total this year.

For that to happen, we need the gentlemen of HKS to stop shaving their upper lip and start a fundraiser page as part of the HKStache team.

Ladies, you are vital to our success. Please considering becoming a Mo Sista and teaming up with a Mo Bro to raise awareness and funds. You’ll get your own fundraising page as well. We will also have a couple big events/parties this month, so please let us know if you are interested in helping.

If you would like to participate or have any questions, please email nick_wilson@hks14.harvard.edu and he’ll help you get started on creating a fundraising page.
